Sample Online Syllabus

This syllabus reflects a 6-week online course that meets asynchronously during the summer. The course has a maximum enrollment of 20. The course is structured to include interactive discussion rather than using lectures to help students understand course material.

Each week, the professor posts a discussion question on Canvas. Students are expected to respond to the discussion question by Tuesdayof that week. By Friday, students are expected to respond to, at least, two other classmates. The idea is to simulate a discussion like we would in a classroom setting. Throughout the discussion, the professor responds to students, posts additional questions as well as TedTalk and YouTube videos that are relevant to the topic.

In addition to discussion posts, students complete bi-weekly quizzes to ensure they are reading and understanding key terms and themes. Students also complete a research paper on an under-representative population.
